- 1/2 cup (1 stick / 115g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 1/4 cup (35g) powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup (120g) all-purpose flour, spoon and leveled
- gel or liquid-gel food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- In a large bowl, cream together butter, sugar, salt, and vanilla until mixed well.
- Add flour and stir until fully combined, with no visible dry flour.
- If desired, reserve a little less than 1/4 of the dough for uncolored centers and color the remaining dough with food coloring.
- Take 1 teaspoon portions of dough and roll them into balls. Chill in the fridge for 30-60 minutes if the dough is sticky.
- Arranging on a parchment lined baking sheet, form flowers with one uncolored ball at the center and five colored balls around it, pressing them gently to connect.
- Chill the shaped cookies in the freezer for 10 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes until lightly golden brown and no longer shiny on top.
- Cool for 10 minutes on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
You can use any food coloring of your choice to customize the flower colors.
Ensure that the cookie dough is well chilled to maintain shape while baking.
