- 1 pound lean ground beef
- 1 ½ teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon ground cumin
- ¾ teaspoon kosher salt
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 small yellow or white onion (¼-inch diced)
- 1 (15-ounce) can reduced-sodium black beans, rinsed and drained
- 1 cup prepared salsa
- 6 burrito-size flour tortillas (about 10 inches)
- 2 cups (8 ounces) shredded Monterey Jack, sharp cheddar, or Mexican blend cheese
- Sour cream
- Avocado
- Hot sauce
- Chopped fresh cilantro
Instructions
- Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Add the ground beef, pressing it into a 1/2-inch thickness and allow to sizzle for 3 to 4 minutes until crust forms.
- Season with chili powder, oregano, cumin, salt, garlic powder, and smoked paprika; add the diced onion.
- Break up the beef with a spoon and cook until fully browned, about 4 more minutes.
- Incorporate the black beans and salsa, cooking until heated through and most liquid evaporates, about 1 minute.
- Assemble the burritos by placing a tortilla on a work surface and adding cheese, then top with a portion of the beef/bean mixture and more cheese.
- Fold the sides of the tortilla in and roll to secure.
- Preheat a nonstick skillet on medium heat and brown each burrito for 1 to 2 minutes per side until golden.
- Serve warm with toppings as desired.

For added flavor, feel free to customize toppings to your preference.
These burritos can be made ahead and frozen for quick meals later.
