Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 ounces añejo tequila
  • 1 1/2 ounces homemade sweet and sour mix
  • 3/4 ounce orange liqueur (cointreau or triple sec)
  • 2 cups water (for sweet and sour mix)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for sweet and sour mix)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lime juice (about 57 small limes)
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice (about 2 medium lemons)

Instructions

  • Simmer the water and sugar in a saucepan until the sugar dissolves, then let it cool to create sugar syrup.
  • Stir in the fresh lime and lemon juice into the cooled syrup to create the sweet and sour mix.
  • Prepare the glass by rimming it with lime juice and kosher salt, filling it with ice.
  • Shake the añejo tequila, sweet and sour mix, and orange liqueur in a shaker with ice until well chilled.
  • Strain the mixture into the prepared glass over ice and garnish with a lime wedge.

Notes

For a saltier rim, adjust the kosher salt amount on the glass rim to taste.
Feel free to replace añejo tequila with your preferred tequila type for different flavor profiles.
