Description

These Mexican Inspired Brownies combine rich chocolate with a hint of spice. Perfect for gatherings or a comforting treat, this homemade dessert will satisfy any sweet tooth with its delightful flavors.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 ounces (113g) unsweetened baking chocolate (coarsely chopped)
  • ¾ cup (170g) unsalted butter
  • 1¾ cups (350g) sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons (10g) unsweetened cocoa powder (regular or Dutch process)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (124g) all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup (125g) mini chocolate chips
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder (regular or Dutch process)
  • ⅛ teaspoon ground cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a 9×13-inch pan with foil and apply cooking spray.
  2. In a large microwave-safe bowl, combine chopped baking chocolate and unsalted butter. Heat on HIGH for 2-3 minutes, stirring every 30 seconds until melted and smooth. Mix in the sugar.
  3. Beat in the eggs, vanilla extract, 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, ¾ teaspoon of cayenne pepper, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cocoa powder until well blended.
  4. Carefully add in the all-purpose flour and fold gently. Stir in the mini chocolate chips until evenly distributed.
  5. Spread the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for 20-25 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few crumbs. Allow brownies to cool completely before slicing into squares.
  6. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, ¼ teaspoon of cocoa powder, ¼ teaspoon of cinnamon, and a pinch of cayenne pepper. Sprinkle over the sliced brownies.

Notes

For added flavor, experiment with more or less cayenne according to your heat preference.
These brownies are great when paired with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a delightful dessert.
Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
