Description

This Apple Pie promises an irresistible flavor with homemade crust and fresh, juicy apples, making it a delightful dessert for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 8 ounces Crisco
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 12 medium apples, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup light brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the Crisco and mix with your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse meal. Make a well in the center and add cold water.
  2. Carefully mix the flour mixture into the water until combined. Do not overmix. Divide the dough into two even pieces, form into flat discs, wrap in plastic, and let rest in the cooler for about 30 minutes to 1 hour.
  3. After resting, roll out the first disc of dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4" thick and large enough to line your pie plate. Place the rolled dough in a 9" pie plate and set aside.
  4. Roll out the second disc to a similar thickness and cut into 3/4" strips for a lattice top. Place on a baking tray and refrigerate while preparing the pie filling.

Notes

Ensure that the water used for the dough is cold to achieve a flaky crust.
Let the rolled dough rest in the cooler, as this will help it maintain its shape during baking.
