Description

Treat yourself to these Apple Turnovers with Puff Pastry, filled with caramelized apples and spices. Simple to make, these turnovers are perfect for dessert or a snack!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb Puff Pastry, Thawed
  • 1 tbsp Butter
  • 3 medium Apples, Peeled, Cored & Diced
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp Flour
  • 1 Egg + 1 tbsp Water
  • 1/2 cup Powdered Sugar
  • 1–2 tbsp Milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Thaw the Puff Pastry according to package instructions while preparing the apple filling.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced apples and cook, stirring occasionally until softened.
  3. Lower the heat and stir in the brown sugar and cinnamon, simmering for 3 minutes until the apples are caramelized. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. Dust the counter with flour. Roll out the first sheet of Puff Pastry into an 11" square. Cut it into 4 equal squares.
  5. Place the cooled apple mixture on one half of each square, leaving a ½" border around the edges.
  6. Whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush it along the edges of the pastry to help seal them, then fold the edges over and crimp with a fork. Repeat this with the second sheet of Puff Pastry.
  7. Place the turnovers on a parchment-lined baking sheet, ensuring they are at least 1" apart. Cut slits into the tops of each to prevent leaking.
  8. Brush the tops with egg wash and bake for 20-22 minutes until golden and puffed.
  9. To prepare the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar and enough milk to achieve the desired consistency, then drizzle over the baked turnovers.

Notes

Ensure the Puff Pastry is fully thawed for easier handling.
You can use different varieties of apples for varied flavors—try Granny Smith or Honeycrisp!
Allow the turnovers to cool slightly before glazing for a better texture.
