Description

These Baked Apple Cider Donuts combine the rich flavor of apple cider, a hint of cinnamon, and a simple baking process. Perfect for breakfast or a delightful snack, they are sure to satisfy your cravings for homemade treats.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 1/2 cups apple cider
  • 2 cups cake flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tbsp butter, melted
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, bring apple cider to a boil over high heat. Let boil for a minute, then reduce heat to a simmer.
  2. Simmer the cider until it reduces to about 1/2 cup, which will take around 15 minutes. The cider should thicken and darken slightly. Make sure to measure out 1/2 cup when done.
  3. Allow the reduced cider to cool completely before proceeding.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Spray a donut pan with non-stick cooking spray and set aside.
  5. In a large bowl, whisk together the cake flour, baking powder, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg.
  6. In another bowl, whisk together 1/2 cup of the reduced apple cider, milk, brown sugar, sugar, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
  7. Pour the liquid ingredients into the dry mixture and stir until just combined.
  8. Distribute the batter evenly into the donut molds.
  9. Bake for 8 minutes until the donuts are cooked through.
  10. In a shallow bowl, melt 1/2 cup of butter.
  11. In another shallow bowl, mix together 1 cup of sugar and 2 tsp of cinnamon.
  12. Dip both sides of each donut into the melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture to coat.

Notes

Ensure that the apple cider is well-reduced for maximum flavor.
These donuts are best eaten fresh but can be stored in an airtight container for a couple of days.
Experiment with different toppings or add-ins for variety.
