Ingredients

Scale
  • 16 ounces spaghetti
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley or 2 tablespoons dried
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ⅓ cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1 pound lean ground beef or italian sausage
  • 1 green bell pepper diced
  • 1 small onion diced
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • ½ teaspoon salt or to taste
  • 32 ounces pasta sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 (14.5 ounces) can diced tomatoes with juices
  • 1½ teaspoons italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Cook the spaghetti in a large pot of salted water until al dente according to package directions.
  3. In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef along with the green pepper, onion, garlic, and salt until browned. Drain excess fat if necessary.
  4. Add the pasta sauce, diced tomatoes, and Italian seasoning to the skillet and let it simmer uncovered for 5 to 10 minutes until thickened. Mix in the cooked spaghetti and parsley.
  5. Transfer the mixture to the prepared dish, sprinkle with mozzarella and parmesan cheese, and bake for 25-30 minutes until hot and the cheese is melted and bubbly.

Notes

Feel free to substitute ground turkey or chicken for a leaner option.
Using fresh herbs can enhance the flavor of your baked spaghetti.
For added spice, include some crushed red pepper flakes into the meat mixture.
