Description

This Crockpot Apple Butter offers an irresistible combination of flavors with fresh apples and warm spices. It’s simple to prepare and perfect for toast or as a unique ingredient in your favorite dishes. Enjoy the homemade goodness in every bite!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 lb (1400g) apples (fuji, gala, honeycrisp, red delicious or similar)
  • ½ cup (100g) granulated sugar
  • ½ cup (100g) packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Slice and core the apples, optionally peeling them before cutting them into small chunks.
  2. Place the chunked apples in the bottom of a 7qt slow cooker, and add both sugars and cinnamon on top. Toss to combine.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and cook on high for 3-5 hours, stirring after the first 2 hours until the apples appear translucent, which typically takes around 4 hours.
  4. Use a hand blender to puree the apple mixture into a smooth sauce. If using a regular blender, blend in batches, ensuring the lid is slightly open to prevent overheating.
  5. Once blended, return the mixture to the slow cooker to continue cooking on high with the lid cracked for 30 minutes to an hour or until it reaches your desired thickness.
  6. Stir in salt and vanilla, allow it to cool, and transfer to jars or freezer containers. If not canning, the apple butter can last for about 2 weeks in the refrigerator.

Notes

You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of sugar.
For varied flavor, try adding other spices like nutmeg or ginger.
To can the apple butter, follow recommended canning procedures for preservation.
